"If you know wilderness in
the way that you know love, you would be unwilling to let it go....This is
the story of our past and it will be
the story of our future."
— Terry Tempest Williams, Testimony
This year, the Kauai
Public Land Trust celebrates 20 years of protecting “places of the heart”
for present and future generations. Over our first two decades, we
successfully set aside 178 acres on Kauai. From a small, often frequented
coastal strip in Ha`ena to 158 acres of coastal wildlife habitat and
scenic estuary lands in and around the Kilauea River Estuary, these lands
are protected against development in perpetuity.

Kilauea Falls -
Generously donated by a Kilauea
landowner, 150 acres of the 162 acre
property are now protected from development forever.

As we look
back on our 20-year journey, we are grateful to all of you who have given
generously of your time, money and expertise in support of our mission. We
extend a special welcome to our newer members who are joining us for
KPLT’s next chapter.

As we all know, there is
much more to do. We continue to work to expand Blackpot Beach Park on
beautiful Hanalei Bay. Alekoko Fishpond, Coco Palms, Maha`ulepu, Po`ipu
Beach Park Expansion and the creation of a passive park in Kekaha are just
a few of the other “places of the heart” on our “To Do List”, as we work
with other groups for the right time and money to secure those properties.

Ken Burns’ recently
televised documentary, The National Parks: America’s Best Idea, is a
moving reminder that our efforts on Kaua`i are part of a rich national
legacy that was begun generations ago. Only, our focus is on “local” lands
and “local” places—places on Kaua`i that have generated rich memories and
deep connections with the aina for families and individuals over many
years.
| We hope you will
consider making a gift to KPLT to help us mark this important
milestone in our journey. And please encourage those who share your
conservation ethic to join our ‘ohana. |

"Thank you
for your commitment and support of KPLT and the difference it makes
to life on Kaua`i. It is a privilege to do this work with you.”
