Criteria

Property under consideration by the Kauai Public Land Trust must meet one or more specific criteria for acquisition:

Scenic Value & Open Space 
The property is of unique scenic value and is visible to the public; or its development would impair the scenic character of the local landscape or it would threaten scenic view planes. 

Significant Natural Habitat
The property is in a relatively natural state and large enough to adequately protect the resource; it contains rare, endangered, threatened or other native species; or contributes to the viability of a park or conservation area.

Historical & Archaeological Significance 
The site represents a significant cultural or historic resource, which may be damaged or lost without protection, and is capable of being maintained in perpetuity.

Public Recreation & Education 
The property is accessible to the general public; is an attractive or educational resource, or is valuable for recreational use. 

Productive Farmland 
The property is zoned for agriculture and is rated as prime ag land; it is of sufficient size to maintain its agricultural integrity even if nearby lands are developed; or its productivity is threatened by development pressure; or its non-agricultural use would adversely affect neighboring agricultural use.

Acquisitions

KPLT has recently acquired a 17,000 square foot piece of coastal land just west of Wainiha Bay.  This acquisition is the result of a generous donation by the Canela Group and ensures that the public’s access to a favorite ocean view and fishing spot will be available in perpetuity.

KPLT is currently raising funds towards the $3.4million purchase of a 20 acre parcel to add to the Kilauea Coastal Preserve at Kilauea Bay.

"Black Pot" Expansion
KPLT is currently seeking funds to acquire lot TMK (4) 5-5-001:011 adjacent to Black Pot Park in Hanalei.  Once acquired the property will be added to the existing park.



 - Garden Island

Kekaha Coastal Parcel
KPLT is working on acquiring a 1.3 acre parcel along the Kekaha coast.  Once purchased the property would be available to the public as a passive park.




Friends of Coco Palms
KPLT is proud to be the fiscal sponsor for the Friends of Coco Palms.  A committee of community leaders, the Friends of Coco Palms is committed to acquiring the historic Coco Palms Resort property for public benefit.  For more information please visit
